The Water Of Life
Here is your Daily Devotional Prayer for December 6, 2016 brought to you by The Plough
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
Lord our God, be with us and let your face shine upon us, for we are your children. In the midst of all human planning we are your children who seek you alone, who seek your will, your kingdom, and everything you have promised to humankind. Fill our thoughts and feelings with your power so that our lives on earth may belong to you, so that with our whole will we may put every thing we have and are into your hands. For we want to be your children, to have one will with you, Almighty God. We want your kingdom. This is our will, O Lord our God, and it is your will too. Therefore it must come to pass, to the glory of your name. Amen.
Daily Commentary: The offer of eternal life from God is given to us in Revelation. Now, are you too lazy to accept the water of life? Drinking of this water provide us with the right nourishment for us to live the Christian life. In John 14, Jesus said, “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14) The point is, we need the water of life to sustain us or we will die of starvation (not physical but a spiritual one).
Our appetite cannot be satisfied with mere food. We need the pure manna from heaven but to receive it, you must give yourself back to God. This invitation is a two-step approach that we sometimes lose sight of.
The late Pastor, Ken Pell, put it best when he said, “God is inviting you to “come … take the free gift of the water of life.” It’s is an offer only the One who sees your value can make. This is the greatest invitation in the world and it is given with you and your needs in mind. It is God, in Christ, finishing the rescue mission that He started in Genesis 3. The victory was made possible through the cross and the resurrection.”
This is a unique offer than no one else can make. We see a “river of life” flowing through the world and we want to drink from it. This is an invitation of restoration from God. That calling is seen in Matthew 11:28-30 when it states, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God is constantly calling us and we need to accept that invitation. In order to do this, your eyes and ears as well as your heart must be open to the invitation. You can’t taste the spiritual water of life if you are not open to it.
In Isaiah 44:3, we see how water brings life. “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.”
Water is a blessing for Christians so understand this… when you drink from the water of life, then God is blessing you with his unconditional love.
