Unlocking The Conscious And Unconscious Mind

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.”
Brian Tracy

How do you take your brain off its default system and use it to create miracles, magic and some really amazing opportunities in your life? Your brain is a powerful force indeed and when you learn how to control it you will be amazed at what you can actually achieve.

According to Earl Nightingale, “Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.”

This is the key to a world where you can use the subconscious mind to better your life and become all that you were meant to be.. The subconscious is active all of time yet most of us don’t have any clue as to how to tap into the sheer power it possesses. .

We think a little positive thinking will go a long way but that is only have the battle. The idea is to reprogram the mind to change what needs to change and benefit from the reprogramming. The subconscious learns through constant repetition to make things a habit. That habit drives you wherever you go and whatever you do.

reprogram your mind for success

The Struggle Between The Conscious and The Subconscious Mind

“The greatest impediments to changes in our traditional roles seem to lie not in the visible world of conscious intent, but in the murky realm of the unconscious mind.”
Augustus Y. Napier

How do you create a life full of miracles, magic and amazing opportunities?

Inside your brain stem is something called the Reticular Activating System or RAS which is considered to be the gatekeeper that screens out data that the brain deems unimportant or not worthy enough to follow from your environment.

RAS is one of the most powerful forces known to man. According to Kris Hallbom and Tim Hallbom, “All of your future goals and dreams are not only a reflection of your subconscious thinking but they are also mediated by your Reticular Activating System (RAS). The RAS is the part of your brain that serves as a filter between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind. The RAS, which is located in the core of your brain stem, takes instructions from your conscious mind, and passes them on to your subconscious mind.”

Its main function is to process information that comes through. It can only process 147 bits of information at any one time therefore, it only lets in information that is relevant and important. Everything else is screened out. When you feel overloaded, your mind cannot process any information at all. It’s like a computer without enough memory. It slows down and cannot function properly.

Your brain focuses on the things it says are important and relevant to your survival and well-being but you can learn to control the RAS to better equip yourself in life. In Annie Grace’s well-written article entitled, “Liminal Thinking: The Key to Unlocking Your Unconscious Mind” she states, “Your unconscious mind is responsible for your desires. We don’t think about the distinction between our conscious and unconscious thoughts, but that distinction is vital to realizing why we continue to do things we vowed to stop. Studies confirm we have two separate thinking systems—the conscious and unconscious. The give-and-take between unconscious choices and our rational, conscious goals helps explain why we continue to do things we no longer desire to do.”

How does your brain decide what is important and relevant to you?

“The conscious mind determines the actions, the unconscious mind determines the reactions; and the reactions are just as important as the actions.”
E. Stanley Jones

It does this by assessing the external environment against what is contained in your long-term memory. This included your core beliefs, experiences, values and conditioning. This is what is considered your default system. If you choose to believe something is impossible despite it existing for real, you will not see it. It will become
impervious to your field of vision. This is why beliefs must change as part of the reprogramming effort. It must fall in line with what you want to change as long as it is part of the authentic you.

You have the power to override this default system with your thinking part of the brain which is known as the frontal lobe. It is a simple as choosing to put all your focus and attention on what you want because what you put your focus on what you find.

Quantum physics has proven this model to be true. It states that in any point in time, all possibilities exist and the moment we focus on one thing, the rest drop out of existence. But when we alter our focus, the possibilities change in our mind and we lose track of what we’re doing.

Here are two good examples of that model:

  • Finding a parking space for your car – Ever tried to find a parking space for your car and got really frustrated when you couldn’t. Everything changed when you put your focus on getting the parking space. You convinced yourself it was opening up and boom, a spot became available. When this becomes a habit, it gets easier every time to get a parking space. It is not a game of chance but RAS working in your favor. When you focus and believe, your brain kicks into gear and your RAS is activated to see opportunities for parking spaces.
  • Noticing things you never noticed before – Returning to the idea of cars, ever decided you wanted to buy a new car but didn’t know which one to buy? You happen to see one in the paper or on a commercial and all of the sudden you see them everywhere? Before they weren’t on your radar but
your brain now has been activated to see them. Even though they were always there only now has your RAS been activated to notice them.

How Does The Brain Activate RAS?

“The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises.”
Sigmund Freud

The RAS works on both a conscious and unconscious level. At any given time we are bombarded by 2 million bits of information but the brain cannot process all this data at once. Instead, we observe things at an unconscious level happening all around us so that we can focus on what we feel is important. That is when RAS kicks into overdrive and starts doing its magic.

The brain has the capacity to see the smallest things once you put your mind’s focus upon them. You cannot do or find things if you don’t believe in yourself. This is the whole point of positive thinking. Activating RAS based on the belief that you can and you will! That is how great things happen and how feats that once were thought to be impossible become the norm.

To most people, this seems like pure magic or sleight-of-hand but it isn’t. It is what your brain was built to do. RAS was put there for our most basic of instincts, to find food, water and protect us for survival. As humans evolved, our brains grew and we learned coping mechanisms that helped us survive. What we learned to focus on helped us evolve into the beings we are today.

How Are You Using Your RAS?

reticulating activating system

Are you living on automatic pilot and letting your conditioned brain dictate what you see and don’t see? Or, are you taking matters into your own hands and focusing on the things you really want? Positive thinking will get you there if you allow your RAS to be activated to do its job.

Have you ever focused on other people’s faults and weaknesses?

The more you focus on their faults and weaknesses the more you see them. The same goes for your own faults and weaknesses. Start focusing on your strengths and good points and let RAS work for you instead of against you. No one is perfect but focusing too much on the negative side of things hurts your potential and keeps you from pursuing your greater self. This is the self God created you to be. It’s not about being weak but gaining strength. Strength to carry on, believing in one’s sel, and learning from our mistakes. That’s where positive thinking gives us the edge.

What you focus upon you will definitely find. When you focus on new ideas do you focus on whether other’s will like it or hate it. Whatever you focus on will happen. Positive thinking gets you past the gatekeeper and puts you on the pathway to success. Whatever you focus on will ultimately happen whether you like it or not. You must focus on the positive for positive things to happen.

What you focus on becomes your perception. You miss things you don’t focus upon. Life is filled with both good and bad so what you focus on you’ll receive as well as see and react to.

All possibilities exist in the universe. You decide where you choose to put your focus on and attention on as it will decide the difference between an expansive life of amazing miracles and great opportunities or a life filled with drama, excuses and limitations.

What will you choose?

This is amazing stuff isn’t it? The more you learn the secrets of positive thinking the more you will become the person of your dreams. Implement these strategies and see how much better your life becomes!

How Thinking Positive Leads To Positive Success

How Thinking Positive Leads To Positive Success

  1. “The more positive thoughts you have, the better you feel, which causes you to have more positive thoughts, then you feel even better.”
    James Borg

Your mind is a powerful tool and when used for good, it can create great success in your lifetime.  If you want to achieve your goals, remaining positive during the tough times is a must.  Those that can harness the power of positive thinking create the strategies to become a success in all areas of life.

Anyone who wants to be successful needs an edge and having the proper mindset gives you that confidence to become an overachiever.  Whether you are an athlete, student, business leader, teacher or just starting out in life, learning how to think positively is your secret weapon to get ahead.

Success is just a state of mind but you need help along the way.  There are three bible verses that show that God is there to help you to become the success you want to be.

  1. Philippians 4:13, “I can do everything through him that gives me strength.”
  2. Psalm 37:4, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
  3. Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.”

God has given us a great mind to reason out and to make wise choices with our lives.  What you think about you become.  Those that wallow in negativity will forever be stuck in the cement of their negative thought patterns but to those that remain positive no matter the situation, they are the people who are tested by fire and become strong in their determination.

We have a loving God who wants the best for us but if we don’t believe in HIS love, we are lost.  We need to see the bigger picture in our lives and remaining positive during times of trouble is when faith takes over.

“Always Focus On Thinking Positive

positive thoughts

“A major factor in determining how our lives turn out is the way we choose to think. Everything that goes on inside the human mind in the form of thoughts, ideas, and information forms our personal philosophy.”
Jim Rohn

Life can be tough at times and how we deal with it says a lot about how successful we ultimately become.  If we complain and see ourselves as the victim we will never amount to anything of substance. Our hearts and minds takes us where we want to go.  Start using positive words in your conversations with others and be the kind of person that lifts the spirits of those who are down.  Keeping everything positive brings good karma to every situation and allows you to see the good in the world.

Ever been around negative people?  They are such a bore and bring everyone down who they come in contact with.  Physically they can drain the energy right out of you.  Instead, be generous with your how you treat others.  Encourage and support others, whether it’s your work colleagues, friends or family and you create an atmosphere of love and positive vibrations. Successful people stay motivated because they make good use of their environment by changing other people’s state of mind.

Using creative visualise techniques is a great way set up a positive future.  No matter how hard your life is right now don’t waste time complaining about it. Instead, visualise a future that you want for yourself. See yourself with a better-paying job, a house with a loving family, and a life filled with love and security. What happens to you now doesn’t have to be a predictor of how your future will end up. Positive thinking will help you achieve your goal of that better future.

How To Make Thinking Positive Work For You

We all have unlimited potential. The key to unlocking this infinite potential is by using our minds to think in a positive manner instead of dwelling on negative feelings.  New research has revealed that positive thoughts actually create genuine value in your life and  help you build real world skills that impact your work, your overall health, and your attitudes.

When you focus on the negative aspect of life, your emotions prevent your brain from making wise choices about the things around you.  You get stuck in survival instinct and you close off the logical side of your brain.  But when you activate the positive emotions inside your brain which allow you to see the vast possibilities that life has to offer.  Joy contentment and love bring about powerful changes in attitude, emotions and confidence.

According to Barbara Fredrickson, a positive psychology researcher at the University of North Carolina, claims that the “Broaden and Build” theory of positive thinking  (You broaden your possibilities that opens your mind, which allows you to build new skills and that provide value in other parts of your life).

Why Happiness Brings Out The Power Of Positive Thinking

“No matter where you work or live or what occupation you engage in negative or undermining forces are constant. But, you have been armed with positive thinking that permeates each and very thorny bush within the garden of life.”
Catherine Pulsifer

Happiness plays a big role in success.  The happier we are the more positive we become.  They go together to build the skills we need for success.  Our  attitudes have an enormous effect on who we become.

Here are five ways we can make positive thinking work in our lives.

  1. Take responsibility for your actions –  When you take responsibility everything comes down to you.  Be responsible for you and you alone.  Whatever someone else does do not tie it to your happiness.  They are not responsible for your happiness and you are not responsible for their happiness.
  2. Stop blaming yourself –  Don’t play the blame game every time something goes wrong.  Whether you win or fail understand it’s all part of life and you learn from your mistakes.  Successful people use their mistakes as a stepping stone to greatness.  It is a great motivator.
  3. Focus on what you can do not on what you can’t – Don’t get caught up in what you can’t do.  Can’t is a word that should be removed from your vocabulary.  Instead, see the possibilities life has for you and do your best.
  4. Eliminate your ego –  Remember, it’s not all about you.  Ego is the great divider.  Instead, be the kind of person that helps others and brings a smile and a laugh to everyone.  When you eliminate the selfishness all you have left to give is love and care.
  5. Surround yourself with positive people – The more positive people you bring into your life the more you can achieve.  When everyone is acting is a loving and positive manner it makes it easy to strive for success.  Those with a positive outlook on life are happier and their success rubs off on you.

According to Darshan Goswami, M.S., P.E. from, he says, “Positive thinking can change your life. I f you want to live longer, be happy, healthy and successful, all you have to do is think positive.”

Positive thinking helps us cope with life, and is a skill all of us need to apply to every area of our lives.  If everyone was more positive, life would be much safer, we’d all be much happier and love would really be all we need .

Let me leave you with this quote: “Your life is your garden, your thoughts are the seeds.  If  your life isn’t awesome, you’ve been watering the weeds.”

How To Reduce Stress With Positive Thinking

Reducing Stress With Positive Thinking

“Proactively working to develop mental strength increases your resilience to stress and reduces the toll it takes on you both physically and mentally.”
Amy Morin

Positive thinking can have an amazing and powerful effect on our lives but when we are stressed out we tend to forget all the positive thoughts we’ve had before and succumb to the rigors of our stressful lives.  Society as a whole has put stress in the forefront in the hectic and fast-paced life we all lead.

Negativity creeps up when we are stressed and those good thoughts that kept us sane before are nowhere to be found.  People with a positive mindset see things in a different light as opposed to those who constantly struggle with life because of a poor mental attitude.

Doctors at The Mayo Clinic have found that using positive thinking as a tool in managing your stress can have many useful benefits.

1- Helps you live a longer and happier life
2- Reduces the instances of depression and anxiety
3- Lowers the risk of both heart disease and heart related deaths
4- Less likelihood of developing colds and flu
5- Helps develop strong coping skills which makes you a stronger and tougher person
6- Helps boost your natural defense system

Believing In The Power Of Positive Thinking

power of positive thinking

“Being in a positive state of mind is more important than you might think as the mind cannot be creative in a negative state. New ideas, thoughts and inspiration will only take place when the mind is positive.”
Joe Hinchliff

For some people, the power of positive thinking can be difficult thing to accept.  They don’t understand the power that the mind has over our actions.  The universe delivers what we ask it to so when we are negative, we are really asking for a negative solution.  Positive people see the endless possibilities of life and live in the now.  They believe stress is just a perception of our reality and alter that reality with a clear vision of what they want to happen.  They live their lives according the present moment.  They don’t waste their time creating all kinds of “what if” scenarios that may never happen.  Instead they control their reality by believing in choosing a course of action that leads to a positive outcome.

Positive self talk is another way of reducing stress . The more you feel good about yourself the more ammunition you have to combat the destructive forces that negative self talk can hurl at you.

Thinking positively about who you are on the inside helps you confront the problem when it arises and gives you strength when things go bad. It’s only when you understand where stress is coming from can you battle it. Positive self talk is the difference between falling into depression and allowing things to roll off your back.

Positive Self-Talk

From Visually.

When you have a positive outlook on life, you have a clear focus what needs to be done.  This way you create less stressful situations which keep you calm in a sea of swirling negativity. Positive people tend to anticipate happiness, good health and bring forth real success in their lives while believing they can overcome any type of obstacle and difficulty that comes their way.

Focusing On Positive Thinking To Control Your Stress

There is an easy way to turn negative thinking into positive success.  It starts by creating a new habit within your mind. Expect good things to happen.  When you look for the good in life you will find it just as expecting bad things to happen they will appear.  It’s all in how you perceive life.  Start identifying areas in which you need to change.  Become an optimistic person and engage in thinking positive about every situation.  The more positive you are, the easier it is to handle stressful situations.

Watch what you are thinking about.  Negative people tend to let their minds wander and fall into negativity.  The more you listen to your thoughts the more you can control them.  Identify areas that cause you to be negative and work on them. Practice the idea of positive self-talk.  Listen to your inner dialogue and when negativity enters, change the conversation to a positive affirmation.

Try to surround yourself with only positive people.  It has been said that you are comprised of  your five closest companions. If they are negative or spout negative comments, they are influencing you in the wrong direction. They can prevent you from reaching your true potential.  Make sure your circle of friends are supportive of your ideas, dreams and are capable of giving thoughtful and helpful advice when you need it.

Before doing anything, visualize a positive outcome in any given situation.  It will give you a leg up on whether you succeed or fail.  When you know you will succeed, it gives you the confidence to make it happen.  When you are dealing with negative feelings, stress makes you doubt yourself thereby increasing the stress you already feel.

Positive Thinking Is A Way of Life

never give up on your dreams

“You have to develop a habit of saying positive things about yourself. It’s almost like tricking your mind sometimes because although you may not necessarily ‘feel’ that way, you’ll get into the habit of thinking positive things about yourself subconsciously.”
Victoria Davis

To enjoy the fruits of positive thinking we must employ it everyday in everything we do.  In fact, we must ooze positive vibes which in turn bring positive people, outcomes and things into our lives.  What’s the difference between positive and negative people?  It’s all in their attitude.  Positive people are uplifting and fun to be with.  Negative people are  physically draining and brings us down.  Our body language shows the true way we feel.  Positive and negative thinking are as contagious as the flu and whichever one you decide to adopt you will attract like-minded people to you.  The more negative people are in your circle the more stress you will feel.

Did you know that when you are negative, you release poisons into the bloodstream which causes you to be more unhappy and much more negative?  That is why failure, frustration and disappointment follow negative people like the plague.  A positive attitude brings optimism into your life.  It helps you to think constructively, helps you to become a more creative person as well as giving you the energy and motivation to accomplish your goals.

The next time you are feeling stressed out and feel like  screaming, take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and meditate on some positive affirmations.  These are like giving yourself a pep talk.  Get into the habit of praying and believing you are loved.  Positive affirmations bring on a quiet confidence and allows you to be calm in the most stressful of situation. This takes some practice but the more you do it the less stress you will feel.

We all need to reduce the stress in our lives and using positive thinking is the best remedy I know to become the person you’ve always wanted to be.
