Finding True Happiness In Life Part 3

Finding True Happiness Starts In The Mind

“Happiness blooms naturally in the hearts of those who are inwardly free. It flows spontaneously, like a mountain spring after April showers, in minds that are contented with simple living.”
Paramhansa Yogananda

Where is the first place you think of when trying to find happiness in your life?

For most people, it starts with their possessions. Let’s be real here. Most people worry too much about what they have or don’t have that they forget where true happiness begins and ends.

According to Buddhist nun, Gen Kelsang Nyema, we need to open our hearts and minds and look deep inside for happiness. Happiness lies within our own hearts and minds. She has a beautifully simple way about her that is incredibly peaceful and we can learn so much from her passion for happiness.

Happiness Is All In Your Mind: Gen Kelsang Nyema

She starts by asking 2 questions.

They are:
1- Are you having a good day?
2- Why are you having a good day and if you are not, why?

Everything in life is depended on those two questions and how we respond. If we are negative and drawn in by the negative aspects of life then we will not have a good day will we. No matter how hard we try, outside and external influences will rob us of our happiness.

This is why we need to look deep within for the happiness that God has put there. In fact, it really isn’t happiness at all… it is known as joy, pure joy. Joy is that which fills your soul with happiness no matter what happens in life. It is the manifestation of unconditional love that dwells in our hearts and minds and motivates us to seek out those things which brings us pleasure.

We seek happiness because we seek love. Love is happiness and when we find that love, it is manifested in our actions and the happiness from the inside is brought forth to others through our actions.

On the other hand, if you truly want to have a happy day no matter the circumstances, you need to see happiness from a different perspective. Her teacher, Geshe Kelsing Gyotso states, “Much of the time, our mind is like a balloon in the wind, blown here and there by external circumstances. When things are going well, we feel happy but if something doesn’t go our way, we’re not happy.”

We need to see the world in a bigger picture and not just our selfish reach for happiness but be compassionate to others for if we are causing unhappiness for others then it will come back to us in karma.

She goes on to say that “As long as our reasons for having a good day are a list of external conditions, then were not going to have the stable happiness we all want.”

That is an unbelievable statement because most of us put the blame on others, or circumstances for our unhappiness and we lose sight of what real happiness entails.

What Does Your Happiness Depend On?

“Happiness is NOW! It isn’t tomorrow. It isn’t yesterday. Happiness is like a morning glory: Yesterday’s won’t bloom again; tomorrow’s hasn’t opened yet. Only today’s flower can be enjoyed today. Be happy this very moment, and you’ll learn how to be happy always.”
Swami Kriyananda

If you can’t control your circumstances or the people you are with or meet then will they cause your unhappiness?

Of course not. But why do we believe that statement?

It means our happiness is left in the hands of others and we’ve given control of our lives over to others and I know I don’t want to give up control of my life to no one but God. We end up being at the whim of our daily circumstances.

Hunting for Happiness

What Do We Need To Be Happy?

1- Stop outsourcing our happiness and happiness to others – This means we have to take complete responsibility for our own happiness or unhappiness. As hard is that to accept, we must look deeply into our own hearts and minds to begin taking back control of what we feel.

Stop attributing our happiness or unhappiness to what is going on externally. We need to look within for our own happiness and own that. Stop blaming others for our unhappiness. The only blame should bo on ourselves for being so selfish.

2- Happiness and unhappiness are just states of mind – The real causes of our happiness or unhappiness depends on what is in our minds. That state controls what we feel and then we react to it. Instead, your happiness depends on a peaceful positive state of mind. That way, you can withstand anything that comes your way and still feel the joy of life.

It is how we are responding to everything around us that determines whether we are happy or not. Not outside circumstances because they change all the time.

How Is This Done?

Cultivating A Stable Peace Of Mind

“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise man grows it under his feet.”
James Oppenheim

find your own brand of happiness

We do it through cultivating a stable peace of mind. We cultivate this peaceful and positive state of mind through meditation. All meditation is, is a practice of concentrated focus on what we want to put our attention to. To cultivate this peaceful and positive peace of mind, we concentrate our energies on increasing
awareness of how we are responding to the things around us and changing those things that make us unhappy. This is a way to enhance both our personal and spiritual growth and become closer to God.

According to Vlad Dolezal of An Amazing Mind , there are 5 Simple Ways to Increase Your Peace of Mind.

He lists them out  below:

1-Do your most daunting task first thing in the morning –

2-Let go of things you don’t control

3-Don’t worry about what others are thinking

4-List 3 things you love about your situation right now

5-Walk to a window, look outside, and take a single deep breath

Are Joy And Happiness One In The Same?

“Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happiness comes and goes but joy is everlasting. Meditation teaches us to remain in loving kindness to the world around us and become the best version of unconditional love we can be to bring it to the world. How much happiness we bring depends on how much joy we feel. The more joyful we are the more we can
bring happiness to the world.

Sadness is part of the world but it doesn’t have to take us over. Being conscious of our thoughts, moods, and words ultimately brings happiness in our awareness of self. You can’t control others but you can control yourself that is why you have the choice to be happy even if things aren’t going your way. Happiness is a state of mind and whatever state you are in that is what you are feeling.

Go beyond your feelings and learn to calm the mind. It is there you will find the peace and happiness you have been searching all your life. I hope this 3-Part series has uplifted your spirits in such a way as to give you cause to rethink your own life in a way that will take you on the road to a rich and warm happiness that you can give to others through unconditional love.

Learning to find happiness is not an easy task but if you open your heart and mind happiness will find you

Finding True Happiness In Life Part 1

finding true happiness

How To Find True Happiness

“Even if life gave you at one time everything you wanted – wealth, power, friends — after awhile you would again become dissatisfied and need something more.  But there is one thing that can never become stale to you – joy itself.”
Paramhansa Yogananda

Finding true happiness… it’s everyone’s goal in life but far too many people end up looking for it in all the wrong places. They think money, power, and possessions can replace the joy that God has given us but they always end up at the same place… broke, dejected, and sometimes alone.

Happiness is not something you can buy. It is a way of thinking, living and being. It is being able to to live with both the good times and bad times and still being able to smile at the world. Taking it to the next level… that’s what joy is all about

It has taken me years to understand the concept of what happiness is all about. I came from a miserable childhood which didn’t offer much hope or joy but as I have come to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as my savior, a new spirit has come over me. I see happiness as a gift from God and I want to share it with the world.

Below is a beautiful video on finding and creating happiness which is what all of us truly need and to help you understand and enjoy what true happiness is all about. Open your heart to the will of God and see what life has to offer. Happiness comes from unconditional love. Give love and happiness will find you… I guarantee it!

Finding And Creating Real Happiness

“Happiness is a direction, not a place.”
Sydney J. Harris

In this video by Jay Phelan, PhD., we learn how to put structure into our lives so happiness flows through us instead of trying to find that elusive happiness that always seems to be out of our grasp. It is through these concepts that we can reimagine what happiness is and live according to God’s plan.

What principals of happiness do we need to learn to make happiness work in our own lives? Here is are 20 principals from Jay on finding your own brand of true happiness in life:

1- The amount of money you have does not equate the amount of happiness you feel. The old saying, “Money can’t buy you happiness” has been proven time and time again yet too many people search for happiness in the almighty dollar.

2- In the United States, the GDP (Gross National Product) more than doubled between 1972 and 2002 and yet, they found that even though people had increased their salaries significantly, they did not feel any happier. The main reason has to do with people are still searching for happiness in all the wrong places. They still think they can find it in possessions.

3- The happiness factor has not really kept up with our rising wealth. In fact, it seems the more we earn, the less happy we tend to be. We spend too much time chasing wealth instead of spending our time giving to others. Giving has been found to bring more happiness than anything we can buy.

4- The same ideas hold true for Japan. You’d think with their rising wealth they too would be a much happier people but when you look at their own rise in salaries you find different customs and different ways to do things still haven’t increased their overall happiness between the years 1958 and 2002. Once you hit a certain ceiling in salary it seems that happiness stagnates out.

Why Is It So Hard To Increase Happiness

“There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human—in not having to be just happy or just sad—in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time.”
C. JoyBell C.

5- Why does this happen to us? It all comes down to our genes. It is adaptation through evolution. We have adapted our emotions through the years based on what is happening around us.

6- Jay explains it this way… emotions alter the way we behave in ways that are beneficial to our genes. By taking these four powerful emotions we see what happens when we adapt them to our genes.

  1. Anger
  2. Guilt
  3. Desire
  4. Jealousy

7- We tend to think our emotions lead us towards the pathway to happiness but our genes have an agenda all their own and our emotions just come for the ride and express what we’re feeling..

8- Studies have shown that people who win the lottery hit the highest point right after winning but after one year, they go back to the same happiness levels they were at before winning the money. It’s not the money but what we are feeling inside. That takes us where we want to go in life. It’s the pursuit of happiness that brings us there not the money, possessions or power thrusted upon us it’s not the end result of that pursuit but how we get there.

9- Another example of this happens when a person has a catastrophic accident. At first, they are at their lowest point but research has found that some people return to their pre-accident happiness levels after just one year. Time heals all wounds helps people accept life to the point that they trust what they’re feeling is true and authentic again.

10- Our genes are always looking for constant progress. They want us to be improving and learning. If we don’t improve we become stagnant. It’s more about moving towards your life’s goals instead of the final accomplishment. The actual working on improving ourselves brings the big reward not the end goal.

11- Worrying spoils the improvements we make and turns off the happiness genes. Stop worrying about your current situation. Instead, try to make the current situation better as you go along. Give it time to build and follow through to it’s logical conclusion. Too often, we try to force happiness to happen but when we choose to let happen flow it makes it much easier to be joyful.

12- Jay says we are to take our goals less seriously. It may seem logical but the goal incentivizes the tools we have to work with. When we have reached our intended goals, we start searching for a new goal to achieve. Once again, we’re back looking for the pathway to more more happiness.

13- Life puts us in precarious positions but that’s what so great about finding happiness. It forces us to look deep inside for what’s real and shows us what true happiness means to us.

Working Towards The Ultimate Joy Of Life

“The world is full of people looking for spectacular happiness while they snub contentment.”
Doug Larson

joy and contentment

14- People complain and say that if you are working towards a new goal you think things are terrible right now and you’ll be happy when you get there but in reality, it doesn’t quite work that way.

15– You need to take chances in life. It’s not about just the goals or just about achieving them because one of the consequences of having emotions is, they are short-lived. Once their done it’s on to the next set of experiences. We think the worst but they don’t last nearly as long as we perceive them to be.

16- Try and do the things that make you happy but go beyond your current expectations because your worse-case scenario is usually wrong and things work out okay. You sabotage your chances at feeling happy because you’ve put a limit on finding happiness. It’s like a wall that you separate between you and your eventual happiness.

17- You must understand what makes you happy and pursue that. The funny thing is, we know how to make others happy but we sabotage our own happiness.

18- Unexpected happiness is good for everyone involved. It keeps the flow of happiness going as one thing closes and a new thing opens. You give happiness and someone receives it.

19- We need to structure our lives in such a way that we are always making progress. That’s where the true happiness lies. Not in some far off belief that if we attain our goal we will receive a ribbon of happiness and we don’t have to do anything else anymore.

20- Happiness is in the doing… not the final result. Don’t put all your energies in the goal itself but improving who you are and what you are experiencing for those experiences bring their own brand of happiness both now and later on as we look back fondly over the events of our life.

I hope you understand the meaning that has been presented to you here and may you always find your happiness in living and not dreaming your life away.

How To Find Lasting Happiness

How To Find Lasting Happiness

“A lasting happiness cannot be attained by seeking temporary happiness.”
E.A. Bucchianeri

Every day we have a chance to find happiness. What are you doing to elicit love and happiness to a world that is devoid of personal contact?

We spend far too much time on Facebook and Twitter and not enough time bringing happiness to the world.

What can you do to find your own brand of happiness?

What must you do to walk through the valley of joy?

Are you getting the most fun out of life? It might seem like an easy question to answer but most of us need to be brutally honest with ourselves. It’s all about finding lasting happiness.

No one with any brain whatsoever can deny that being happy is good advice, but unfortunately for many of us, it can be a difficult request to follow. It shouldn’t be, but the quest has become a burden to many and has led them down a deep and narrow path filled with both decadence and sin.

We reach out in all sorts of strange and unusual ways to find real happiness and still it escapes us but God wants us to be truly happy. We just need to surrender ourselves to His will and happiness will ultimately follow. This may sound like a fantasy to many but God has promised us new life in the spirit as found in 2 Corinthians 5:17:

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creature; the old things passed away; behold, new
things have come.”

If you find yourself looking in from the outside and wonder why so many other people seem to have every advantage in life while you are mired in the depths of despair, remember this; Everyone’s situation in life is different.

We can choose to become the masters of our own destiny by overcoming our emotions and make smart lifestyle and social choices. Positive choices can ensure we find ourselves happy at the end of the day. No matter what we face, we have the final choice in what we do. Or we can do the exact opposite and live apart from God’s love.

Finding Lasting Happiness In Life

“Moment by moment the Holy Spirit will work with your beliefs, taking you step by step as you unwind your mind from the many false concepts that you believe keep you safe and make you happy. Only the release from these false beliefs can bring you true happiness and lasting peace.”
David Hoffmeister

Here’s a simple fact: you can’t truly be happy unless you choose to be happy. When you choose to be happy, you are making a conscious decision about how you look at the world. You are taking personal responsibility over your outlook, rather than blaming outside forces for the way you feel.

Life is filled with all kinds of opportunities to experience happiness but too many of us spoil it by giving excuses as to why we can’t be happy.

Why is this?

What can I do to make happiness a reality?

Put quite simply, the happier you are, the healthier you will be. We know this is true because a wonderful connection between wellness and joy has been discovered. In March of 2013, doctors, psychiatrists and experts from the Mayo Clinic, Harvard University and National Institutes of Health all jumped on Twitter to hold a one-hour discussion about happiness.

According to Dr Friedman, a well-known psychiatrist with the Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Hospital in New York,he states, Happiness is hard to measure, but easy to recognize.” And that is so very true.

You can spot a happy person in an instant. They have a glow about them and give off a radiance of peacefulness and satisfaction. That may be due to the fact that happiness has now finally been officially linked to better health. This affects entire communities as well as individuals. Happiness can even lower the number of stress causing hormones in your body, and improve your immune function.

Just ask Laura Kubzansky, an associate professor at the Harvard School of Public Health who is a leader in studying the effects of those people who choose to have a positive outlook on life. She participated in a study whose results were released in 2007, which included over 6,000 women and men. It tracked 25 to 74-year-old individuals for two decades.

Those participants who were engaged in life and chose to face life’s troubles with enthusiasm and hopefulness actually had a lower risk of coronary heart disease. It seems that emotional vitality can actually make you healthier. This in turn causes you to feel better about yourself and your surroundings, which continues to make you happier about the world. When you choose to be happy, a wonderful cycle of health and joy begins.

Finding Lasting Happiness In God’s Love

God is love

“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”
Augustine

Choosing God’s Love To Experience Real Joy A funny thing happens when we involve God in our lives. We see things from a different point of view. God’s love strengthens the bonds of friendship, love, and families in a way that we can never do on our own.

7 Ways God Loves Us

From Visually.

God calls us to seek happiness in him. We see this in bible verses such as:“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  Psalm 37:4, and “In your presence is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore,”  Psalm 16:11.

God loves us so much that He wants us to experience the joy that comes from His unconditional love. According to author Jon Bloom, “Pleasure is the measure of your treasure.”  There are many promises that God makes and they include being joyful and knowing His peace which are not temporary.

Jesus said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the
world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:27.

Humans crave happiness but finding pleasure is not the same. Too many try to find it in sinful practices such as drugs, alcohol, and sex and get lost along the way. Your job is to seek God and you will see what real happiness is all about.

Finding lasting happiness is not about a quick fix but those things that bring joy to our hearts and pleasure to the world. Without God’s happiness, love and happiness would be a much bitter pill to swallow.

How do you go about finding lasting happiness?

You can find it in my #1 bestselling book on Amazon.com entitled “Summoned To Love – A Spiritual Blueprint For Rediscovering Inner Peace, Unconditional Love, And True Happiness.”

Summoned To Love

Why Happiness Is A Choice You Make

happiness is a choice you make

Happiness Is A Choice You Make

“Too often in life, something happens and we blame other people for us not being happy or satisfied or fulfilled. So the point is, we all have choices, and we make the choice to accept people or situations or to not accept situations.”
Tom Brady

If you feel you are lacking in the happiness department my friend, that is a choice you have decided to make.  You have full and complete control over your life and the decisions you make so don’t let anyone tell you different.  Whatever you do in life choosing to be happy is a choice you make and you make alone. You may feel like the fun has gone out of your life but there are many   factors which people measure their own happiness.  Some people think money is the ultimate happiness but they soon realize money doesn’t bring happiness only misery if all you do is work all the time to pay for your pleasures.

You might look at others who are blessed with so much but beware, you don’t know their situation. They may be in serious debt even though it looks like they have  everything.  Don’t strive to be like them. Instead, carve out your own happiness niche in this world by following your passions and your ideals. Being a slave to wealth, possessions, status, or even an exalted position you hold at work. don’t create happiness.  Happiness is a choice that comes from deep inside.

How is Happiness Measured?

measure of happiness

“Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy. If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy. If you have everything the world can give – pleasure, possessions, power – but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy.”
Dada Vaswani

There are many things in life that can make you happy.  They are mainly subjective because happiness comes differently for everyone. The way you find joy and happiness is measured differently by everyone. Everyone seeks happiness in their own way. What makes you happy is a natural high that you deserve to find.  There is nothing wrong with the things that you find joy in. Respect others for what they enjoy.  Seek out your own enjoyment and never feel guilty for your own pleasure.  It;s something they can;t take away from you.

While some people appear to be naturally happy looks can be deceiving.  Although studies suggest there is a genetic disposition linked to being happy it doesn’t mean you were born to be miserable if you are not a naturally happy person.  Your happiness is influenced by your environment and the people you come in contact with.

How To Find Happiness In Everyday Life

Sleep is a big factor in being a happy person.  Sleep is needed for the body to function properly.  When you don’t get enough sleep you you end up being very moody, have an inability to think clearly, and your reactions to events is slow.. Prayer is the highest form of happiness.  When we pray to God, we bask in his unconditional love. Prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving show our happiness and love for GOd.  It is a well known fact that those who pray are much happier than those who don’t.  Knowing that there is a loving and caring God that has our back gives comfort in time of trouble and stress and helps us avoid become victims of depression.  Once again, praying changes our brains and causes us to feel at peace. Peace is just another word for happiness in its most basic form.

The Quest For Happiness

“Perfect happiness is a beautiful sunset, the giggle of a grandchild, the first snowfall. It’s the little things that make happy moments, not the grand events. Joy comes in sips, not gulps.”
Sharon Draper

Some people search their whole lives for happiness and never find it.  They are too busy with their own feelings they never stop to understand what others may be doing or feeling.  One of the best ways to find happiness is to serve others.  We find comfort is serving others and studies have shown that it changes our heart when we help others.
