Living With God’s Compassion

how to be compassionate

Here is your Daily Devotional Prayer for October 23, 2016 brought to you by The Plough

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.”

2 Corinthians 1:3–5

Lord our God, Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who encourages and strengthens us in all distress, we thank you for turning our suffering into a pathway to life, so that we may be thankful and trusting through everything. You can change what we find hardest into what is best for us. Praise to your name that a way through sin and death is given to us. Praise to your name that you have shown us a way through all evil, a way that is blest. Amen.

Daily Commentary: Jesus is the source of all comfort and is the merciful one. He comforts us when we most need Him and will not desert us in times of trouble. In Hebrews 13:5, it is written, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

This is important to remember for Christians as we seem to forget God when things bad. We blame Him for our troubles instead of coming to Him in humility as there are two avenues of comfort that God gives.

1- The Word of God

2- Prayer

People that do not go directly to God while reading his word and praying for direct comfort miss out on all the blessing the Father has reserved for us. Suffering is part of the human experience that is why God has set up prayer and His word to give us comfort when we need it..

Finally, we are made in the image of God so we are required to comfort others as God has comforted us. We read this in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Therefore, comfort each other and edify one another , just as also are doing.” As well as 1 Thessalonians 5:14,“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”

Comfort is something we all need, It is up to take advantage of the comforting love Jesus has given to us. By giving comfort to others, we bring full circle the love of the Father to all of mankind.
