“Let those who fear the Lord say: “His love endures forever.” When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Psalm 118:46
From Hopelessness To Hopeful When Things Look Bleak
You’re laying in bed, the bills are spread out all around you and you realize you don’t have enough money to eat let alone pay your creditors or you’ve been laid off and the mortgage is due and you don’t know what to do. How do you go from hopelessness to hopeful when things looks bleak?
Believe me, I’ve been there and it can be very depressing to when you see your world falling apart all around you. You feel despondent and worthless as if no one cares but I’m going to show you how to turn things around with words of hope and encouragement that will give you a different take on your struggles.
How do you elicit hope when you feel like throwing in the towel?
The first question you have to ask yourself is this…
Am I using my faith to the best of my ability?
Faith is the mountain we stand on when life tests our resolve. At times, it can feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel but we are not promised an easy life. God has given us a plan but sometimes it’s fraught with thorns that we have to battle through. Remember, God is always refining us and preparing us for his fulfilled promises.
He offers hope where hope should not be found. He offers a way out of whatever you are going through.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
Sometimes, we fight the temptation to give up but God is always there, watching over us. Don’r be defined by your past experiences. Instead be emboldened by them, learn from them and use them to better yourself!
Finding Hope In A Hopeless World
Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28
Trials and tribulations always seem to come at the worst times but it’s these types of thing that shapes us and makes us who we are.
I can remember when I was in my early twenties and I was still living at home. I had recently lost my job, had ten dollars to my name and no prospects for a decent job. I felt hopeless in my situation. How was I going to make a life for myself.?
I didn’t want to live at home all my life but there didn’t seem to be a way out . What were my options? Here’s where things get interesting.
Here’s what I did to overcome my hopelessness and live a life filled with hope and joy.
1- Change The Way You Think – We all get into bad habits and our thoughts are what does us in. Negative thoughts are like little missiles that blow us parts of our life but when you use positive re-enforcement in your thoughts they are the shields that protect us from self-esteem problems.
2- Seek Out Inspiration From Others – I knew deep down inside I had something to offer the world and when I went looking for inspiration from others, I found a way out of my troubles. They say you need to find someone successful and duplicate what they are doing. When I started changing my habits and doing what other successful people were doing, everything changed for me. I found the love of my life, a good job came my way and I found the strength inside I didn’t know I had.
3- Take Calculated Risks That You Know Will Pay Off – Standing still means stagnation and that is what kills dreams and sends people down the road to depression and suicide. They feel they can’t get out of their situation and take the easy way out. You have to fight and claw your way through life sometimes and take risks that will pay off. Risks are only risky when you don’t take the ones that can make things better for you. Example… you just lost your job, what do you do? Sit home and cry about it or go out and fight for the job you know you deserve. What can happen? You either don’t get it or you do. The odds are with you when you make it a do or die. You keep doing it until it pays off.
4- Identify Those Things That Bring You Down – I understand that you cannot be happy all the time but you need to pinpoint exactly what is troubling you realize it is a part of your life and you must deal with it. Too often, people push things to the side and wait for a day that never comes. Instead, deal with it now and take responsibility. Revel in the fact that you are strong enough to tackle it and if things get out of hand, that’s when you go for help. The problem is, most people do not have a plan until it’s too late. Don’t be that person. Once you have a plan of action you must put it into gear or it will all be for naught.
5- Face Your Fears – We all have certain fears that we don’t want to face but like we said in number three, identify and then plan out. Here, understand what you are fearful of and map out a plan that will help alleviate those fears and then take action. For me, it was the fear of facing others if I failed so I didn’t try anything for fear of failure. Once I overcame this fear, I was able to take chances and if I did fail, it was no big deal.
Overcoming Hopelessness And Finding Hope In The Lord
If someone made a promise to you and it showed you a way to live that would bring blessings to you, would you follow it?
Now if you made a promise to another wouldn’t you want that person to believe you?
This is what faith is and though there are bumps in the road, it is all about the journey itself. God wants you to focus on the tasks at hand. As much as you think you are at your breaking point, God has a plan for you.
Let me give you an example.
My son graduated near the top of his college as a music education major. His dream was to teach music and bring the love and appreciation he has for it to the young children. Despite looking for a job month after month, nothing came about. He was down to his last few dollars and was very depressed. He gave everything he had for four years, traveling all over the country playing and bringing his gift to the world.
Finally, after praying to God and opening up his heart, a job offer came after school year has already started. It was about 100 miles away at a inner city school which had gone through music teachers at an alarming rate. It meant he would have to move out and be by himself for the next year or so.
At first he was very depressed because it wasn’t what he was looking for but God has a plan for him. By humbling himself and taking this tough assignment, God was preparing him to be a gift to these kids who badly needed a figurehead who cared about him. He now sees that this was a test for him and he was needed by God to do an important task.
The idea that your outcome looks bleak and there’s no end in sight is a fallacy. Your future is bright because God has a plan for you. It may not be what you envision and it definitely will be tough but God is forging your heart and making you strong.
Think of this as a test. You either win or lose. What’s it going to be?
Make the decision to live by faith and then take action on that faith. I promise you He will deliver… big time!
You can be rest assured of God’s promise through these 5 bible verses:
Psalm 9:18 “But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.”
Psalm 33:18 “But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.”
Psalm 33:22 “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.”
Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Job 11:18 “You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety.”

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.”

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.”

“Then another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of all God’s people upon the golden altar in front of the throne. And from the angel’s hand the smoke of the incense went up before God with the prayers of his people.”
Maybe you’ve had a few instances of happiness but they were so short lived you can barely remember them. I got ya! It seems like everyone is so miserable these days and you don’t have a clue as to why this happening to you also.
We look all over the place for true happiness but we forget the first rule of happiness… do what makes you happy. You don’t look for happiness, you let it come to you.
We find it in the little things in life. Ever thought about doing something wild and crazy but then your logical side spoke up as if it were your mother and told you to stop fooling around and get busy doing something constructive?
Those are happiness killers. The things that stop us from having fun and expressing ourselves.
What’s stopping you from the things that make you happy?
Excuses are the bane of anyone trying to find happiness in a world filled with sorrow and depression.
According to Professor Myrna Weisman and associates, roughly a quarter of the population has suffered some form of clinical depression during their lifetime and a further 48% has suffered from depression severe enough to incapacitate them for more than two weeks. This is also taken from Robert E. Lane’s book “Loss Of Happiness” and it shows that society is becoming less and less happy and has gone to taking out its frustrations on one another.
If you want to be happy you need to examine what makes you happy, why they make you happy and how you go about including those things in your life.
What Are 7 The Keys To Finding True Happiness
Worry is not one of then but the mere fact that we are so filled with worry makes it so hard to be happy. There are many ways to be happy but let me share some of the most powerful keys to finding happiness.
1- Faith– It may seem like a no-brainer but too many people go round without faith in themselves or a higher being. As a Christian, my faith keeps me grounded and allows me to stay away from temptations that would get me in trouble, from people who may try and take advantage of me as well as situations that may compromise my values. The more faith you have the happier your life tends to be. This isn’t just words but a promise. Countless studies have been done to see why people of faith are happier. Their conclusion? People of faith have something to look forward to that is filled with joy. That gives them contentment others just can’t match.
2- Learn To Savor Live’s Pleasures – You can’t be happy if you don’t experience what life has to offer. How often do you forget the good times in your life while ruminating over that spilt glass of milk or forgetting someone’s name? Savor the good times and forget the bad times. Go out and spell the flowers, Learn how to go out and splurge on yourself without feeling guilty and indulge in what life has to offer. Every day is a chance to see all the beauty God had made for us.
3- Have A Set of Friends Who Have Your Back – Friends are given to us to experience life from all points of view. They are there in good times and bad, to laugh at our silly jokes and to make connections that go deeper than just what’s on the outside. Most of our happy memories come from the experiences we share with others.
4- Stop Living Safe – How boring life would be if we never took chances. Where is the fun in being safe. Live like you may not see tomorrow, love like it may be your last time and create adventures that bring fun into your life. It’s not about throwing caution to the wind but taking calculated risk that brings the most rewards.
5- Find Your Balance Point – Life should not be all about work and no play and vise versa. It should be balanced to the point where happiness has a chance to breathe. When the tipping point goes beyond your set balance, unhappiness and misery fills your heart. The main goals of balance is to allow the body and mind to be fulfilled and at peace. If you have neither then you must rebalance you life and add or detract those things that push your life out of balance.
6- Reposition Your Thought Patterns – Too often we take the “I want” stance in our lives and this leads straight to unhappiness. The more we have, the greater chance of us drowning in possessions instead of experiences. Switch your thoughts to “I Am” and you’ll see the difference. It’s all about piece of mind and believing in yourself. That leads to true happiness and empowerment. Once you have the power to be happy through the mind, you will know the source of your happiness and be able to find happiness wherever you go.
7- Appreciation & Gratitude – If you don’t have these two things you will never be truly happy no matter what you do. Appreciation helps us feel good about who we are, what we have and the people in your life. The same thing goes for gratitude. Thanking God and showing it in your daily excursions brings a peace of mind that helps you during your struggles. Don’t underestimate the power of a good thank you or a pat on the back. Those things are as important as anything else in life.
What is The Meaning Of Happiness
Do you know what the meaning of happiness is? Happiness is not the final destination but takes real effort to maintain. We equate happiness with satisfaction and quality of life but it goes much deeper than that. Even though our moods fluctuate, we control whether we stay happy or become depressed.
Research has found that the more our activities coincide with our values the happier we are. We get meaning from doing those these things but our problems arise from where we put our priorities in the wrong place.
Does your priorities jell with your activities? If not, you may want to think about changing your activities. Happiness alone isn’t enough for us to feel fulfilled but chasing happiness is not the answer.
“It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness.” Viktor Frankl
In an article entitled “The Problem With Happiness” dated November 17, 2011 bears this out. It states, “People putting the greatest emphasis on being happy reported 50 percent less frequent positive emotions, 35 percent less satisfaction about their life, and 75 percent more depressive symptoms.”
How then do we find happiness?
What Does Happiness Mean To You
We must first decide what is important to each individual person. Then, bring a piece of that happiness and give it to others. This is how we derive meaning from that happiness. Happiness is nothing without meaning.
Here are things you can do to find the meaning of happiness in your own life.
1- Take responsibility for your own happiness and not leave it up to others to bring it to you.
2- Commit yourself to a higher purpose. What is your mission on earth. When you find your purpose you are able to commit yourself to bringing God’s love to the world through your higher purpose.
3-Cultivate awareness of both your surroundings and your thoughts for they can bring great happiness or great sorrow. Be aware of the moment and make that moment count.
4- Cultivate positive relationships that help you grow as a person. Without them, you will be not know the essence of loving others. Selfishness does not breed happiness.
5- Learn to be the most authentic person you can be. This way you don’t have to hide behind a veil of secrecy. The more you let others see the real you the happier you can be in your own skin.
According to Michael Davidson. from his article “The Meaning of Happiness” he states “Happiness is the harmony between you and your life that you achieve through finding meaning in every moment.”
I think that sums up what being happy is all about. Now it’s your turn to make it work for you for you have the choice in all matters to be or not to be happy.

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.”
